Salary: $65,000–$75,000 annually

POSITION SUMMARY

Claremont Lincoln University is seeking an innovative and collaborative Instructional Designer to create engaging, high-quality online learning experiences that advance student success and support the University’s mission.

Working remotely as a member of the Academic Affairs team, the Instructional Designer partners with faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and continuously improve online, hybrid, and micro-credential courses within Canvas. This position contributes to the evolution of the University’s digital learning environment through instructional design, educational technology, AI-enhanced learning, accessibility, and continuous course improvement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Course Design & Development

  • Design and maintain engaging online, hybrid, and micro-credential courses in Canvas.
  • Build and publish new academic programs, revised courses, and micro-credentials within the LMS.
  • Partner with faculty and subject matter experts to translate content into engaging, student-centered learning experiences.
  • Design interactive learning experiences using multimedia, simulations, scenario-based activities, discussions, knowledge checks, and other instructional technologies.

Canvas Course Development & Quality

  • Maintain Canvas course templates, course shells, and instructional resources.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure consistency, accessibility, usability, and instructional quality.
  • Recommend enhancements that improve the student learning experience and strengthen the University’s Canvas environment.
  • Ensure course materials, syllabi, and instructional content remain accurate and current.

Instructional Innovation

  • Explore, recommend, and implement instructional technologies that enhance teaching and learning.
  • Incorporate AI-enabled learning tools and instructional strategies where appropriate.
  • Stay current on emerging trends in instructional design, online learning, and educational technology.
  • Contribute ideas that improve course quality, learner engagement, and instructional effectiveness.

Learning Outcomes & Student Success

  • Build and maintain learning outcomes, rubrics, and assessment tools within Canvas.
  • Assist with course improvements informed by student learning data and assessment results.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance student learning and engagement.

Digital Credentials

  • Support the implementation of digital badges and micro-credentials using Canvas Credentials or similar platforms.
  • Assist in aligning digital credentials with competencies and learning outcomes.

Accessibility & Inclusive Design

  • Promote Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and ensure course materials meet accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices.
  • Support accessible multimedia, document remediation, and ADA compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of instructional design experience in higher education, workforce education, or adult learning.
  • Demonstrated experience designing courses in Canvas LMS.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, backward design, or similar).
  • Experience developing engaging online learning experiences using multimedia and interactive instructional strategies.
  • Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • Experience integrating AI tools into teaching and learning.
  • Experience with Quality Matters or comparable online course quality standards.
  • Experience with Canvas Credentials or digital badging platforms.
  • Experience with multimedia development tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, or similar software.
